Blue Nine Rules

Blue #1: On or over road is OB, you must hit another shot. 1 stroke penalty
There are some woods way left of the green, regular lost ball and unplayable rules apply.
If you should hit your ball onto the tennis court behind the green (again, it does happen), that is a free drop off to the left or right no nearer the hole. Same as the rule behind the green on White #9 when your ball goes past the driveway and into the driving range area.

Blue #2: Woods all along the right, regular line of flight and lost ball rules apply.

Blue #3: Woods way over to the left – regular line of flight and lost ball rules apply. The ever present pond that messes with your second, but mostly third shot, and sometimes 4th – water hazard rules apply. In addition, a unique local rule for #3, if a ball strikes the power line crossing # 3, the player must cancel the stroke and play a ball as near as possible to the spot from which the original ball was played. You get another shot!! However, if you hit your ball into the yards along the right hand side of this hole, that is OB and you must hit another shot. Don’t go into the yard of that huge white house or else Bronson will come running and he won’t be out there to play with you! 130 lb. young, strong and faster than you German Shepherd!!! Stay away from the black fence if he is out, don’t say you weren’t warned!!

Blue#4: Pond in front of tee and trees all along both sides. There is usually some tall grass that is on the other side of the left fairway trap off your tee shot. This tall grass is usually surrounded by orange stakes. This is a free drop out of the orange staked area but you must find your ball. Otherwise, you must proceed under the lost ball rules. Now there is another ever present pond right in front of the green that at one point or another gets your ball. Regular water hazard rules apply. If your ball is found within the hazard (inside the yellow stakes but not in the water) and you are playing it, remember that you are not allowed to ground your club same as a sand trap! In addition, you are not allowed practice swings inside of a water hazard where you clip the grass with your club same as not allowed a practice swing in a trap where you clip the sand. Bottom line you may not ground your club. This applies to the pond on #3 also and any pond where there are yellow stakes.

Blue#5: Again, just hit it on the green! But if your ball does go into the ditch or tall grass on the right hand side of the green, lost ball rules apply. Unless of course you find it and then take a drop outside the tall grass which is still a 1 stroke penalty for an unplayable lie. However, lies in only the ditch area that is in that little corner (there are stones in that ditch, so your ball must be on the stones) that is a free drop from a drainage ditch area.

Blue #6: There is a creek at the bottom of the hill from the teeing ground, off to the far left same creek for White #6. There is also some tall grass areas way off to the left if you snap hook your drive, line of flight and lost ball rules apply. Now also on this hole is the famous death valley off to the right, lots of high grass and lots of lost balls. By now you know the drill.

Blue #7: Woods all along the right hand side which at one point or another will take your ball. Line of flight and lost ball rules apply. The left side has been cleared out nicely but there is some tall grass off to the far left. Again lost ball rules and unplayable lie rules apply. Another unique local rule for this hole: if a player has interference from the wall on the right side of 7 Blue and takes relief from the obstruction, the player may not cross over the obstruction when determining their nearest point of relief. This means if you hit your ball on the woods side of the wall and the wall is obstructing your stance or swing, you may not bring it down to the fairway side to take a free drop. However if in determining relief from obstruction up there, we don’t want anyone standing on or falling from the wall (Tom Hogan Rule) so you may take an unplayable and hit from the fairway side under a 1 stroke penalty.

Blue#8: Hit it straight here or else there is plenty of tall grass, trees, woods and shrubs on both sides. Line of flight and lost ball rules apply everywhere.
Now there is a stone culvert area off to the right hand side of the green and where the cart path turns to go around to the 9th hole. If your ball rests up against that, it is a free one club length drop no nearer the hole because that is an immovable obstruction. Immovable Obstruction free one club length drop.

Blue #9: Pond in front of the tee again. This pond should not affect you unless you are in a playoff for a Captain’s Slot at the end of the year! No drop zone on #9. However, you may go up and drop one behind the pond if you feel this is a better option than re- teeing your ball. There is a pond off to the right also and very high grass way off to the right. So again lost ball and line of flight rules apply. Now one change from a number of years ago – the parking lot is OB! Let me repeat that – the parking lot is OB. It used to be a free drop if your ball went into the parking lot. It is now OB and you must hit a provisional if you think your ball went into the lot. The parking lot is near the tailgate zone so you may have help in determining if your shot went there or not.

To recap: there are OB situations on #1, #3 and #9 on the Blue Nine!
There are plenty of woods and water and plenty of lost ball opportunities.
Go up and drop on the line of flight your ball took into the woods or water!
Lost ball rules apply for a 1 stroke penalty.
